1991 Mazda MPV
The 1991 Mazda MPV comes with a 2.6L 121 hp and 3.0L 150 hp V6 engine for 4WF
version. Both are paired with a Four-Speed Automatic Overdrive and Five-Speed
Manual Overdrive. Mazda MPV entered the competitive world of cars in 1989 as a
four-door minivan with a side-opening right-rear door instead of the conventional
sliding door panel. The optional Luxury package adds better style and performance
which include sporty alloy wheels, complete leather interior and new color scheme.
Acceleration is not so impressive because of the limited engine power. For this
year, weight is increased but torque and horsepower is still the same thus its
increase decreases on steep locations especially if rear drive is used. The increase
in weight also affects the car's fuel economy. The suspension is not responsive
on rough roads so much effort is needed. However it has stronger towing capability
and flexible passenger space unlike other minivans.
Other trouble spots for 1991 Mazda MPV are leaking refrigerant from the air conditioner,
failure of the upshift to function, difficulty in restarting the engine in cases
of cold temperature, loose outer door handles and unwanted noise from the front
end.
